Crowns
The crowns (sky dome base) can be made of various materials. The dimensions of crowns are standard and adjusted to the dimensions of sky domes. The heights of the standard crowns are 15, 30 or 50 cm. The manufacture of crowns of non-standard heights and sizes is possible on special order.
Polyester crowns
They are made of polyester, reinforced with glass fibres. The heat insulation is assured by the rigid polyurethane foam, inserted between two polyester layers. The inner side of the crown is white and smooth. The composite part of the crown is a flange, fixing the sky dome to the roof.
Standard sizes:
The measures of the crowns, as K and O, are given in the table of standard sizes of sky domes.
Metal crowns
They are made of galvanized (painted) metal sheet. The heat insulation is assured by glass or rock wool, inserted into the metal base. Thus prepared base shall be rimmed with metal sheet, bitumen, or PVC foil (dependent on the type of the roof).
The metal crowns are manufactured in the same standard sizes as the polyester ones (K and O measure in the table of standard sky dome sizes), however, the principal advantage of metal crowns is that the latter can be manufactured in any size without any additional costs for the fabrication of moulds, and can thus be adjusted to any (also non-standard) building opening. The metal crowns can be manufactured also in the non-standard heights.
Standard sizes:
The standard sizes of the metal crowns are the same as the standard sizes of the polyester ones. The measures of crowns, as K and O, are given in the table of standard sizes of sky domes.
Wooden crowns
The wooden crowns are rarely used due to the poorer resistance of wood to weather conditions. Their advantage is especially low price and simple fitting.
