Preparation of acrylic adhesive

The surfaces we wish to bond shall be prepared first: they shall be ground, degreased, cleaned, and well dried. The preparation of adhesive is a simple process. 2-4 % of accelerator N (component B) is mixed in the acrylic adhesives Novopop (component A), the composition is well mixed and left for a few minutes in order to let the air bubbles lift to the surface and burst. The appropriate quantity is then applied on the prepared surface. The curing time is approximately 1 to 1,5 hour; the final solidness is obtained after 24 hours. For obtaining better quality of junction (for demanding products) we recommend to perform a thermal conditioning (temperateing) of the bonded pieces within an hour at 70-80 ºC. This procedure lessens stresses in the adhesive joint and consequently reduces the possibility of the breaking of the joint.

The prepared mass is ready for a single application; therefore it is reasonable to prepare only such quantity of resin at once, as it can be used in 20 - 30 minutes. If the quantity of the added accelerator N is too big (more than 4%), this can cause changing of the colour of the adhesive Novopop.

The acrylic adhesive shall not contaminate with the accelerator in the container where it is stored, not even to a minimal degree, since in this case the curing of the adhesive may arise (strong reaction, thermal release).

Novopop is a trade name for the Akripol's two-component acrylic adhesive. It is used for the cold bonding of acrylic to acrylic. The Novopop is the colourless, viscose resin, containing, besides methyl methacrylate, also the minimum quantities of substances, causing and regulating curing by means of the adequate accelerator, defining the quality of the polymerizate, and stabilizing resin between storage.
